Located on the border between Virginia and North Carolina, the Refuge is visited by almost a half million people per year.  Despite its vast land and opportunities, the Great Dismal Swamp remains a hidden gem—many more people could be enjoying its trails, playgrounds, wildlife and water vistas.

The Friends of GDSNWR has secured funding to enhance the Jericho Entrance of the Refuge. Planned additions include extending nature trails, adding a new pavilion with parking for concerts and events, and providing other amenities that highlight the importance of our shared environmental and cultural heritage within this historic space.
